- of Königsberg, Germany.
Known as Jan de Jonker (Jan Andriesen de Jonker). He was the owner of the farm Jonkershoek near Stellenbosch, which is named after him.
(Attestation of' 13.9.1690 in Stellenbosch Arch., vol. 620; list of burghers in V.C. 39, pp. 113 and 175.)
His marriage to Lysbet Janssen is recorded in the Cape Church register as "«i»den 15. October Jan Andriesen van Coninghsbergen, jonghman en vryburger en Lysbet Janssen van de Caep«/i». "
In the document of 13th September mentioned below he is identified
as Jan Andrijsen, alias d Jonker.
Jan and his wife are recorded as living in the Stellenbosch District
from 1685 (muster roll, VC 39, page 71) as Jan Andriesz en Lijsbeth
Jansz. There they continue until 1698 when we find Elisabeth Jansz
van de Caab widow de Jonker recorded with three children, still in
Stellenbosch (VC 39, page 179).
According to the book, Stellenbosch Three Centuries, 1979, he was
granted the farm «i»Jonkershoek«/i» in 1692. Presumably this was
where he had been farming previously? The same book states that
the farm Weltevreden was granted to Marquard and Jan van Ceijlon,
but on the 13th September 1690, Marquart of Zeijlon, due he states
to his advancing age and inability to properley cultivate his land,
grants all his land and the buildings and crops thereon to Jan
Andrijsen, alias de Jonker, in exchange for being maintained in food
and shelter for the rest of his life (1 STB 18/152, 13 Sept.1690, p.79)
He died in approximately 1698, evidence for this is:
