Notes - John Lough and Elizabeth Merson say that he was promoted for Gallantry during the Crimean War, attributed to his father in law John Graham Lough in an article in the Newcastle Daily Chronicle. Other sources do not record any service in the Crimea. but only in India.

"Sir George Bourchier, K.C.B. Maj-General R.H.A., who served in the Gwalior campaign of1843-4, and at the battle of Punniar, for which he received the Bronze Star. During the Indian Mutiny he commanded a field-battery, and was at the actions of Trimmooghat, the siege of Delhi, the relief of Lucknow, and the defeat of the Gwalior Contingent at Cawnpore. His services were repeatedly named in despatches, and he is author of a touching and deeply interesting narrative of the dreadful scenes of this terrible insurrection, entitled «i»Eight Months' Campaign against the Bengal Sepoy Army during the Mutiny of 1857«/i» (London 1858) he commanded the late (1872) Looshai expedition, and by his able, active, and vigorous generalship contributed to its successful termination. He married July 10, 1853, Georgina Clemtson, youger daughter of John Graham Lough, the celebrated sculptor, and by her , who died at Calcutta, 2 March 1868, had issue, 1. George Lough; 2. Bourchier, Sir George (1821-1898)
Son of Rev. Edward Bourchier: educated at Addidsombe: entered the Bengal Artillery, 1838: at Punniar: in the mutiny commanded a battery at Trimmu Gat: at the siege and capture of Delhi: at Bulandsharh, Alighar, Agra, Sir Colin Campbell's relief of Lucknow, at Cawnpur: Brevet Colonel and C.B.: commanded the R.A. in Bhutan, 1864-6: commanded the E. frontier district, 1871, and the Cachar column in the Lushai expedition, 1871-2: K.C.B., 1852: Maj. General: died March 15, 1898
