In the 1861 UK census he is living with his grandparents at 25 Queen St, Colchester, Essex, a scholar age 7.

In the 1871 census is still living with his Grandfather Robert at 25 Queen St, Colchester, Essex. In the household are Robert Langford, age 72, Baptist Minister, his grandson Albert Luxon Langford, age 17, an Apprentice Watchmaker, their housekeeper Martha Pratt age 48 and a lodger Frederick James Knapp, a Pupil Teacher. Albert's birthplace is given as Port Natal, Pietermaritzburg, and it is noted "British Subject"

He was present at the funeral of his grandfather Robert in Colchester in September 1872.

Appears in the 1881 census living at 35 Head St, Colchester, Essex, with his wife Martha R. Langford, as a Watchmaker etc. employing 1 Assistant and 1 Apprentice. Also appears in the 1882 Kelly's Directory for Essex.
