After moving to Chicago, he met mygreat grandmother, Rhoda Annette Butler and they married in 1888.... My great grandfather worked for Illinois Bell Telephone as asupervisor, but I don't know exactly what he did there. Their daughter Jessiewas quite sickly and they were told that it would be better for her health tolive in a place with less polluted air, so that is why they moved to Michigan.William decided to retire from the phone company and bought a plot of land onthe south side of Holland, Michigan in Allegan county to become a"gentleman farmer" according to one of the newsletters from the phonecompany.
