  • Notes
    • From Loo's Book:
      1918:
      That was in February. In January I had a new baby, Stanley. I had so longed for a girl – but another boy. He was born prematurely and was so tiny – only 3 lbs.
      .....
      1919:
      Then the next thing was Stanley got diphtheria, so I was worried to death, but he got over it. They took him to the Isolation Hospital; he was not two years old, but he was so good.
      ....
      1934:
      Stanley was at work at Cuthberts, Durban: although he had got a first-class J.C pass, it was difficult to get work, but he liked his work and was a salesman. He was a nice-looking boy, with fair, curly hair and a lovely complexion. Stanley was very fond of tennis and dancing and had lots of friends, both girls and
      ....
      1935:
      The Christmas after Stanley and Eric had the measles ..... Stanley took ill and no one quite seemed to know what was the matter.... Well, that was the first of the attacks Stanley had and beginning of his long illness – he was in hospital so often and no one seemed to know what to do.
      ....
      1936:
      ...as Stanley got worse – in the end we wired to Ernest and Stanley died on July 12th, 1936, aged 18, after four and half months in "Entabeni" Hospital. He had such a lot of operations and went through so much, and really so brave. So that was another death in July. How I hate that month!

      =====
      Stanley's official cause of death was Toxaemia from retroperitoneal abscess after an operation
