- Rev. Stuart was a missionary at Burnshill, near Tarkastad before moving to King Williams Town.
In King William's Town they provided a home-from-home for the Lundie girls [Francis and Nora Crowther] who were at boarding school there.

Born 1853. Educated at Aberdeen University. Trinity (Theological?) College, Glasgow
Ordained by the Presbytery of Inverness, 1879 (?)
Appointed to Burnshill Mission, «b»1880«/b»
During his time at Burnshill, which began in very difficult and dangerous times, he built it up to become the largest mission congregation in the Presbytery of Kaffraria.
When he retired after celebrating his jubilee in August «b»1930«/b» the station had over 1000 church members and 15 day schools with 1608 pupils under 38 teachers. He taught his people industry and agriculture and encouraged thrift amongst them.
In «b»1895«/b» he and Elijah Makiwane were sent to the Zoutpansberg to examine possibilities of starting a FC of S. Mission there. As a result, the Rev «b»DA McDonald«/b» was sent there, and a great mission built up. This work was always well supported by Mr Stuart.
On the formation of the Bantu Presbyterian Church in 1923 the Rev Mr Stuart was elected as its first Moderator.
He retired in August 1930 and went to live in «b»King William's Town«/b», where he died, 23rd October 1930, and is buried in the Town Cemetery.
