• Notes

  In the 1861 England census, the family was living at 76 Railway Station Yard, Grays Thurrock, Essex. His occupation was Railway Stationmaster. As he was presented with an award for 25 years service a stationmaster at Grays in 1884, he must have been appointed in 1859. In the 1871 England census, his family lived at 103 Railway Villa, Grays, Essex. His occupation was Stationmaster. They employed a 15 year old servant, Jane Green. In the 1874 Post Office Directory for Essex, he is listed as the Station Master at Grays. In the 1881 census, he was still recorded as the Stationmaster at Grays Thurrock. Only Alfred and Alice were still living with the family, at 161 Railway Villa. In the 1882 Kelly's Directory for Essex, he is listed as the Station Master at Grays. In 1884 he attended a presentation dinner in acknowledgement of 25 years service as Stationmaster at Grays. In the 1891 census, he is recorded age 70 living at No. 12 Gordon Villa, Albacore Crescent, Lewisham, "living on his own means" with his wife and 30 year old daughter Alice Louisa. His death is recorded in 1892 in Lewisham
