In the 1851 census they were living at 6 Lion or Zion Place, Gravesend, his occupation was National Schoolmaster. In the 1861 census they were living at 55 Parrock St, Gravesend. In the 1871 census he was recorded as a widower, occupation Schoolmaster, living with his three daughters at 24 South Hill Rd, Gravesend.
