- Ken Burchmore states that this is the George Burchmore of the South Australian line, however, birth dates in conflict with age as suggested by ship Bolton. See George 2 for previous line listed as South Australian. _________________
Subject: Re: Burchmore migration to South Australia circa 1850 From:
Terence, My notes indicate that 4 children of George Burchmore (1816-1866) & Sarah Kingston went to South Australia. Their daughter Hannah, George Birchmore (1857-1908) who it is believed changed the spelling to BI, arriving on the Bolton in 1848 and was a pioneer on Kangaroo Island, William (Tim's great grandfather) who settled in Adelaide & Charles John who later became mayor of Manly, NSW. Wouldn't it be nice to know whether they sailed together ?
The Kangaroo Island clan of 6 sons and 2 daughters included an interesting line from John (1871-1952) through his son George (1901-1965), who ran cattle at Kurundi Downs NT, and grandson George who was farming near Oodnadatta when last reported by his sister, Mrs Joy Marks. It is time to get an update, so I will try to contact her.
Your correspondents Kelly Birchmore (the well known athlete?) & Susan Green are no doubt descended from one of the 8 Kangaroo Island children - undoubtedly a large tree by now.
Tim no doubt has good data on his line. In brief, the above William fathered 2 sons, George who had no children and John V. who had one child named John William who completed his medical training in England and settled down there - but more of this from his son Tim.
Nice to be back in touch. I'm reminded that gaps in Burchmore contemporary data still need work but pleased to report that the Robert Harrower Family History is making progress. KKen
