- Worked in Cape Town and then in Beaufort West, Cape Town, Vryburg, Mafeking, Pietermaritzburg and Vryheid. He retired about 1932. The family lived in Mafeking for about 18 years.
He was a member of the Vryheid Town Council for two years.
When he died he was living at 17 Marlborough Court, Marine Parade, Durban
During his time in Mafeking he was mentioned in the local paper Mafeking Mail and Protectorate Guardian) several times:
April 15, 1903: He played in a cricket match (Salt River Railways vs Mafeking Railways) and scored 89
April 16, 1903: Played cricket, this time Railways against the town.
October 3, 1911: Won a prize in a bridge tournament
December 28, 1911: His son Dick won a prize at the annual Railway picnic.
April 25, 1912: Elected as a sidesman at St John's Church
April 30, 1912: Participated in a "Smoker" at the Lodge (Musical Evening)

March 1, 1918: Back in town from a temporary transfer to Kimberley, as his daughter is ill. This was his daughter Daisy, who suffered a gastric ulcer which caused her to give up her training as a nurse.
March 28, 1918: Sympathy to Miss (Daisy) Clemitson whose illness forced her to resign from the visiting committee of the Victoria Hospital
March 30, 1918: Requested leave of absence from council for three months
May 29, 1918: Advertising auction sale of household goods because he has been transferred
June 25, 1918: Town Council accepts resignation (due to transfer) and thanks him for his services
December 19, 1919: Back in town for a visit from Maritzburg where he is stationed
