  PRIVATE Worked in Cape Town and then in Beaufort West, Cape Town, Vryburg, Mafeking, Pietermaritzburg and Vryheid. He retired about 1932. The family lived in Mafeking for about 18 years. He was a member of the Vryheid Town Council for two years. When he died he was living at 17 Marlborough Court, Marine Parade, Durban During his time in Mafeking he was mentioned in the local paper Mafeking Mail and Protectorate Guardian) several times: April 15, 1903: He played in a cricket match (Salt River Railways vs Mafeking Railways) and scored 89 April 16, 1903: Played cricket, this time Railways against the town. October 3, 1911: Won a prize in a bridge tournament December 28, 1911: His son Dick won a prize at the annual Railway picnic. April 25, 1912: Elected as a sidesman at St John's Church April 30, 1912: Participated in a "Smoker" at the Lodge (Musical Evening) May 13, 1912: Selling tickets to the railway Ball.
