- Obituary for Gladys Elizabeth Minty
Gladys Elizabeth Minty was born on January 4, 1921 in Turtleford, SK, the first daughter of Alec and Elizabeth Vinge. The family moved to St. Walburg when she was 12, where she attended school and assisted her father with the St. Walburg Enterprise newspaper.
Gladys met Andrew Minty in 1934 when he was transferred to the St. Walburg Branch of the Canadian Bank of Commerce. They were married on August 11, 1941. Their children, Alec, Ken, Colleen, Carol and David, were born in the years to follow. The family moved to Riverhurst, Kincaid and Winnipeg. During these years Glenys and Dana were born. In 1974, Gladys, Andrew and Dana returned to St. Walburg. Gladys became a nurse's aide in the Lakeland Lodge where she worked until 1986.
Gladys loved to garden and enjoyed her greenhouse on the acreage. When she and Andrew moved to town she continued to enjoy gardening, crocheting and knitting. She donated knitted caps, mittens and scarves to the school and gave a knitting demonstration at the school, after which she was fondly known as "The Mitten Lady". Gladys was a prolific reader; she enjoyed crossword puzzles and took a creative writing class in 2007 where she was known for her witty anecdotes and limericks. Gladys loved animals, especially her beloved companion of 14 years, Snow.
Gladys was predeceased by: her loving husband, Andrew (1995); her mother, Elizabeth (1966); her father, Alec (1970); her eldest son, Alec (2009); her sister, Alice (2002); her brother-in-law, Alfred Exner (1998) and her only nephew, Alec Exner (1967).
Gladys will be lovingly remembered by: her children, Ken, Colleen (Dale) Neumann, Carol Minty, David, Glenys (Russ) Danell and Dana (Mike) Spence; her grandchildren, Cara (Gabriel) Malki, Walker Neumann, Robert (Alisha) Clark, Alec (Sonja) Minty, Janet Minty, Sean and Nico Danell and Jared Dudar; her nieces, Elizabeth (Dennis) Weiers, Alfreda (Michael) Nasby and Elissa (Jason) Ellis; her great granddaughter, Alyssa; and numerous great granddaughters, great grandsons, great nieces and great nephews.
