Death of Mr William Lough of Consett
A well known and respected resident of Consett has passed away in Mr Wm. Lough, veterinary of Front Street, at the advanced age of 82 years. The deceased, who was a native of Greenhead, near Shotley Bridge, where members of the Lough family have resided for generations, had spent many years in Consett. John Lough, the eminent north sculptor, and the designer of the statue Milo, was an uncle of the deceased. The father of the late Mr Lough, Mr Cleminson Lough, acquired an extensive reputation as a veterinary surgeon; while the members of the family carried on a blacksmith's shop at Greenhead, and were noted as experts in horse-shoeing. The deceased's services were at one period in great request in doctoring animals. Some years ago Mr Lough was seized with a paralytic stroke, and although he has been able to go about until within a week or two ago, he has not enjoyed robust health.
