    • Ally trained in shorthand in Glasgow, while boarding with her brother Willie who was a banker there, and later worked in an office in her home town of Alloa.

      She died suddenly, unexpectedly, and with great trauma to her family, most likely of the flu during the 1918 Flu Epidemic. Her last illness is described in graphic detail in surviving letters by her siblings to her brother, George, who was living in South Africa.
