Notes - His brother Petrus was banished to Robben Island (April 1788 to 18 March 1790), for his part in the raid by his father and uncle Jan Wiese to Namaqualand in 1786, (see notes for his father Adriaan) in which a number of Khoikhoi were murdered and cattle stolen from them. Andries also participated in the raid but was pardoned as he was only 14 at the time. While Petrus was away on Robben Island, Andries seduced his wife Margaretha Johanna van Schalkwyk, married her in 1793 and had seven children with her. Andries, Petrus and Margaretha were first cousins.
