  PRIVATE Cornelius' birth place is reported in the 1851 Census as being Chatham but in the 1871 Census as being Brompton, Kent. However he was baptised in Chatham. Address on baptismal record of son, William, September 1860 is New Road, Chatham. The «b»1861 Census«/b» record was difficult to find for the surnames had been transcribed as "Walkins". Sarah and Cornelius were living in Gillingham with 3 yr old George, and 9 month old William. In «b»1871 «/b»he was living with 7 children at Jeyes St in Chatham, Kent, and wife Sarah Ann. His occupation is given as "shipwright". Of note his son, George Cornelius's birth place is the only one given as "Middlesex, Poplar" and his own birthplace is given s "Kent, Brompton" although it is given as "Chatham" in the 1851 census. This information regarding place of birth is repeated in the «b»1881 «/b»census but now he has moved [presumably across the road] to 8 Jeyes St. There are now 8 children. The three eldest sons are employed: George as "engineer S&M" , William and Charles as shipwright apprentices. Eliza is also employed but I can't read the following word. The other four are scholars. The 1881 Censue record was difficult to locate as the name has been transcribed as "Wilkin" not "Wilkins" In «b»1891«/b» the census has him living at 8 Jeyes St, in Chatham, Kent, with his daughter, Annie E, aged 22, as his housekeeper, and his youngest son, James, aged 17, a "shipwt appr" [shipwright apprentice] His wife, Sarah Ann, had died in 1886. The «b»1901«/b» Census shows him living with James, aged 27, at 8 Jeyes St, Chatham, Kent with his occupation given as "Retired inspector of shipwrights".
