• Notes

  PRIVATE Sarah Ann, the daughter of a bargeman, has a family that has been impossible to trace other than in the 1841 Census where her birth place was given as Rochester, and her father's place of birth as Kent. This could be an error: I have been unable to find his birth place and there are many Shackletons in the north. Being a bargeman he could have been very mobile. No trace of her has been found between 1841 and her marriage record. The «b»1861 Census«/b» record was difficult to find for the surnames had been transcribed as "Walkins". Sarah and Cornelius were living in Gillingham with 3 yr old George adn 9 month old William. In «b»1871 «/b»Sarah Ann was living in Chatham with her husband and children: George Cornelius "Williams" (13) , William(10),Eliza (8), Charles(6), Harry (4), Ann Elizabeth(2), Emma (3 months) The «b»1881 «/b»Census record was difficult to locate as the name has been transcribed as "Wilkin" not "Wilkins"
