Hi Veronica
Thank you for the contact details.
Auntie Nora was a wonderful person and a great teacher.
I remember her teaching me in high school. We didn't have a biology lab (a very sore point with her). One day the inspector came to visit. Auntie Nora arranged a special lesson for us. She covered the teacher's table with a cow's heart and lungs and was busy inflating one of the lungs when the inspecter arrived (her timing was perfect). He took one look at the bloody mess on the desk, blanched, and took a few steps back. However Auntie Nora insisted he come in and join in the lesson. Shorlty after that our new biology lab was approved!
She also organised great birthday parties and invented interesting games to play. I remember one where she filled lots of little bottles with different spices and other fragrances. We were blindfolded and had to guess what each bottle contained.
My parents told how once when she was travelling in the Transkei a naughty kid threw a stone at her car. Auntie Nora skidded to a halt, tucked her skirt in her pants and ran down the hill after him .She caught him some way down, smacked his bottom, and marched back up to her car. I doubt the child tried the same trick again!
She was a wonderfully inventive and interesting person. Very definitely someone worth knowing.
Love
