    • Sid was born in 1912, qualified at Rhodes University in 1934 and was principal of Osborne Secondary School, then joined the SA Forces in the artillery in 1939 at the outbreak of the war. He served as a Captain in North Africa and Italy and was mentioned in despatches in 1944. Whilst on active service he was appointed Principal of the Emfundisweni Secondary School and served there from 1945-51 before his appointment as an Inspector of Schools, and eventually as a Director of Bantu Education in Natal until he retired in 1974.
