January 1943 to November 1948: graduated from University of the Witwatersrand with an MB ChB
1949 and 1950 .Houseman at Coronation Hospital in Johannesburg, near Auckland Park.
1951: The early part of 1951 he spent in the Anatomy Dept. doing 100 Hours of various researches needed to get onto the Specialist Register when he had finished his Radiology, which fell by the way when they changed the requirements in 1954
Sept 1951: Radiology course Westminster Hospital, London, England where he studied under Sir Peter Kerley
1953 Qualified as a Radiologist and married in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, England.
1954 Worked at Westminster Hospital, England.Registrar's post there from September 1953 until November 1954
1954 November: returned to Pretoria. Clinical Assistant at The H F Verwoerd Hospital, now The Pretoria Academic Hospital.
1954 December: birth of son, Martin.
1957: joined a Private Practice in Pretoria although he continued to do Sessions at the Hospital for some years. He was in the Dept. when Dr Verwoerd was shot at the Rand Show and had to report on the fractured jaw that Dr V. suffered.
2007:goes to Ermelo Hospital and to Standerton each week doing the sessions that he started in 1957 ! He also does the odd locum at Die Wilgers (Willows) Hospital for the partnership headed by Dr Isaak( Sakkie) v Niekerk, Jannie's son.
