• Notes

  PRIVATE Granny Lou came to South Africa on the «i»Drummond Castle«/i» on December 26, 1883. The «i»Drummond Castle«/i» was a famous ship, because she sank with great loss of life in 1896, in the Bay of Biscay. At first the family lived in Port Elizabeth, then in Cape Town. After her marriage she lived in Beaufort West, Vryburg, Mafeking, Pietermaritzburg and Vryheid. When Granny Loo died she was living at 210 Bishopsgate, Durban. She was born Louisa Philcox, but her father changed the families name when they came to South Africa.
