• Notes

  Farmer at «i»Thornlands«/i», district Swellendam Retired to a smallholding called Excelsior near Paarl. Note that his age on his marriage certificate appears to be incorrect - his age is given as 36 implying birth is 1870. However all other family record s give his year of birth as 1875, including his grave stone and information given to my mother by Aunt Alice. 1875 is also more likely based on the marriage of his parents in 1874 and the birth of his younger sister Cornelia (next in line) in 1876.
