- 1913: Five year old Harry nearly drowned in the Umtamvuna River during a family picnic and was rescued by 19-year old Uncle Arnold. GBT's habit of reeling off the names of all his children, counting heads, probably originated with this incident.
Took his BA at Natal University College [Maritizburg], LLB at the University of the Witwatersrand while working with lawyers in Johannesburg.
1928: Ran at the Empire Games as South African champion miler. [incorrect date- should probably be 1934.]
1932 H. A. Thompson was the National Champion for the 880 yds Flat Running in Athletics
1932-1934: H. A Thompson was the National Champion for the 1 Mile Flat Running in Athletics
1939-45: Intelligence Officer in Madagascar, Egypt & Celyon.
Lived in Bryanston, north of Johannesburg.
