Notes - PRIVATE
- Anne Lundie, the 7th of 9 children, was born to her parents in on a cold February night in 1824 in Arbroath.
The «b»1841 Scotland Census«/b» records her a s a 15-year old girl living in the family home in Maule Street. Five years later in 1846, she married David Lamb. The banns was read in both St Vigeans and Arbroath on 20th January, «b»1846«/b», the record stating that David was from Arbroath, and Ann from St Vigeans parish.
The next record we have of Ann Lamb is in the «b»1851 Scotland Census«/b» where she is recorded living at Back Abbey Street No 18 in Arbroath and listed as the head of the household. Whether this is because she is widowed, or if this was the norm for ship faring folk, I am not sure. She has living with her a servant, Wilhelmina Hogg (20) and two children: Jessie Lamb (4) and Helen Lamb (1). I have not yet found any other records for her husband, David, nor for the infant daughter, Helen Lamb.
From here on tracking Ann is murky. She cannot be found in the «b»1861 Scotland Census«/b» but her daughter, «b»Jessie Lamb«/b» (14) is found living with her grandmother [Janet] and her aunt Margaret in the old family home at 40 Maule Street, Arbroath.
A search of the birth registers shows that Ann Lamb had three more children in between the census records: «b»Mary Jane Bone Lamb«/b» (born 1852), «b»David Charles F Lamb«/b» (born 1854) «b»and George Lundie Lamb«/b» (born 1858). All three of these children died in the same year -1858 - Mary Jane Bone died of scarlet fever so I am assuming the others did as well.
I have been unable to locate a death notice for Ann Lamb although there is a testament for "«i»Ann Lamb, died 29/04/1872, Residing at Millfield near Arbroath".«/i» If this is our Ann the lack of a census record for both 1861 and 1871 is a mystery, as is the whereabouts of her husband, David.
