In the Cape Muster Roll of 1695 the couple are listed in the Drakenstein district as "«i»Gerrit Janz van Deventer & Ariaantje Jacobs 3 k«/i»" The 3k refers to 3 children, but de Villiers and Pama only gives two children prior to 1695.. In the 1702 Muster Roll they are listed as "«i»Gerrit Janz van Deventer & Ariaantje Jacobs 3 k«/i»"
An inventory of his estate is found in the Cape Archives MOOC 10/1.45 dated 28 December 1708 - this was 20 years before his death, possibly bankruptcy?
His estate file after his death is found in the Cape Archives MOOC8/4.112 dated 30 May 1728
He joined the VoC in 1683 as a soldier, and travelled to the Cape on the «i»Juffrouw Anna«/i». He became a freeburgher in 1686
