- She was born in Lochgelly, Fifeshire, Scotland at 10:00 am on December 29, 1855, according to her birth record. Her father is recorded as a Storekeeper. The birth was registered in the parish of Auchterderran
She appeared in the 1861 Scottish Census age 6, living with her parents in Lochgelly, address "Lochgelly Store" in the parish of Auchterderran, where her father was a grocer and spirits merchant. In the 1871 Census, they are living in Kinglassie Village, Fife and his occupation is now Baker. As their yougest daughter was born in Lochgelly in 1868, they must have moved to Kinglassie between 1868 and 1871. Kinglassie is about 5 miles East of Lochgelly.
At her marriage in 1880 she stated on the marriage license "Living in George". What brought her to George is not known.
By the 1881 census the family had moved to 1 Falshaw St., Leith South, Midlothian, and his occupation was Commercial Traveller, and Marguerite was now married and no longer living with the family.
She died approximately one month after the birth of her youngest child. An estate notice was published in the Oudtshoorn Courant on «b»August 11, 1887:
"«/b»In the Estate of Marguerite Christie Langford (born Couper) and surviving Spouse Richard Sancreed Langford, of Calitzdorp.
Creditors in the above Estate are requested to send in their claims and those indebted to the Estate, to pay their debts to the Undersigned within Six Weeks from this date.

«/b»She left an estate valued at £650, which included an erf in the town of Calitzdorp, a cart, a horse and a harness
