- Hans Jacob Brits of Prits, van Stein (Duitsland). Kom in 1682 hier aan as soldaat; 1684 burger op Stellenbosch. In 1722 het hy op die plaas "Koornhof" (Coornhoop?) aan die Liesbeek gewoon. Oorl. 15.2.1729. Trou met Dina Willemse, van Mauritius, dogter van Willem Willemse, van Deventer (Nederland), en Maria Jansz Visser, van Ommen (Nederland) (11 kinders).

HANS JACOB. - Stein. Arr. 1682 as so., b. 6.5.1684, resident at Stellenbosch (1685), later (1722) on the farm "Koornhof" on the Liesbeeck River. ~ 15.2.1729. Dina Willemse (born on Mauritius, d. of Willem Willemse and Maria Jansz Visser). 11 children. (V.C. 56; G.R. nr. 60; Bdlr. 1: 128; Inv. O.C. 4: 85; Bdlr. 1:48; MOOC 14:2 under Maria Visser.) Note. Willem Willems was identical with Willem Willems who went with his wife from the Cape to Mauritius (see Theal, "History", II, p. 235). Brits' wife was also called Dina Cornelisse, Dina Ockers and. Dina Olivier (Baptismal Reg. under 13.4.1692, 10.10.1694, 24.12.1702), because, according to information from Prof. J. L. M. Franken, she was said to be the daughter of the burgher Ockert Cornelisz Olivier. Brits' daughter Sophia died before her father; Sophia Brits married to J. Carstens, C. J. Kock and J. A. Schultz (G.R., I, p. 120), was a daughter of Hans Jacob Brits' son Cornelis (see Gerrit Gerrits of Oldenburg).
