  PRIVATE 1841 Scotland Census Journeyman Flesher - see image Definition of FLESHER =A butcher or tannery worker Living at 30 West Richmond St, parish of St Cuthberts Edinburgh. Age 13. No wedding record has yet been found 1851 Census Now 28 years old Alexander is listed as a Master Flesher and living at 1 Richmond Place, Edinburgh St Cuthberts, Midlothian, Scotland. He is married to Margaret and they have a 9-year old daughter, "Agness" Mather. A search of deaths for Alexander Mather 1855-2006 failed to find a record for this person. A death prior to 1855 would not be found. This family is proving to be extremely difficult to trace. A search of all births to list William Mather as father between 1820 and 1840 in Scotlandspeople has failed to locate ANY of these children. No William Mather is shown to have a wife called Ann Johnston. I have also been unable to find a marriage between Ann Johnston and William Mather - the nearest seems to be with an Agnes Johnstone at St Cuthbert's Edinburgh in 1821. Searching for births on the mother's name- Johnston & Johnstone- also failed to find any children.
