  PRIVATE «b»1841 Census«/b» she is 8 years old and living at 30 West Richmond Street, Edinburgh St Cuthberts, Midlothian 1851 Scottish Census - see scan «b»1851 Census«/b» Living at 3 North Pick St, Edinburgh, aged 18. Her occupation is given as a milliner. This family is proving to be extremely difficult to trace. A search of all births to list William Mather as father between 1820 and 1840 in Scotlandspeople has failed to locate ANY of these children. No William Mather is shown to have a wife called Ann Johnston. I have also been unable to find a marriage between Ann Johnston and William Mather - the nearest seems to be with an Agnes Johnstone at St Cuthbert's Edinburgh in 1821. Searching for births on the mother's name- Johnston & Johnstone- also failed to find any children.
