  PRIVATE No birth certificate found. This family is proving to be extremely difficult to trace. A search of all births to list William Mather as father between 1820 and 1840 in Scotlandspeople has failed to locate ANY of these children. No William Mather is shown to have a wife called Ann Johnston. I have also been unable to find a marriage between Ann Johnston and William Mather - the nearest seems to be with an Agnes Johnstone at St Cuthbert's Edinburgh in 1821. Searching for births on the mother's name- Johnston & Johnstone- also failed to find any children. No Marriage certificate found: a search on Mather for both surnames failed to find this record. A search for "Isabella Mather" failed to find this husband, nor did it find anyone called Edward, nor were any surnames even close to "Mather" The death certificate for an Isabella Black Mather in 1913, who married Edward Mather, gives the maiden name of Walker so the following may not be our person at all. No death certificate for an Isabella B Mather can be found after 1855 so it is possible that our Isabella died between 1851 and 1855 and there would be no way to find the record.
