- «b»Rebecca Kemp«/b» was born in Camberwell, Surrey, in «b»1790«/b» but we have no further details about her yet until she is found in the «b»Census of 1841«/b».
In 1841 Rebecca was 51, married to «b»James Peachey«/b» and is recorded with three daughters living at home: Sarah (26), Elizabeth (22) and Rebecca (14). Also living with them is a young child, five-year-old Henrie Ellson, who is presumed to be a nephew. The exact relationship is not known at this time but we can assume that some tragedy, perhaps the early death of one or both parents resulted in the child living with them. To date no further record of Henrie can be found, not even a death certificate.
[It is quite possible that she had older children who had already left home, but as they are not recorded with the parents there is no way to confirm this without looking at parish records for that time. The parish records of Camberwell are not available on-line right now. Hopefully they will become available in the future. A parish marriage record of the this time period would confirm the names of each partner, date of the marriage, and might even include the occupations and names of their parents.]
Rebecca herself died three years later in «b»1844«/b», in Camberwell at the age of 54. She had lived to see the marriage of one daughter, Sarah (1843) but not the later marriages of her other two daughters. Her husband, James, lived for a further 17 years.
There is one possible birth record for a Rebecca Kemp that needs further research:
