Subject: Re: Wakkerstroom (Transvaal)
Hello Terry:
Wow . . . someone else working on this Richards family!
Family records (unverified) indicate Sarah Richards and Charles Hilder were
married in 1859. I am descended from Sarah's uncle, Henry. Incidentally, I
believe she was known in the family as Sarah. I have a little bit of family
history written by Sarah's cousin Emmeline (my great grandmother), but it
contains nothing else about Sarah and Charles. You probably know that
Sarah's brother Edward Rutland married their first cousin, Anne Charlotte in
1958.
If you have any further details esp. ancestors & origins of this family, I'd
love to know more. I haven't done much work on them yet but in initial
attempts have not been able to find records of birth/christening/origin for
them.
All I have is that Henry Richards and his family travelled to Natal on the
"Minerva" which arrived (was wrecked) at "Cave Rock" at the end of the Bluff
in Durban in 1850 . The family history has Henry's brother Edward and
family also arriving in 1850 but without their son Frederic Arthur who was
"left in England. It is unclear whether or not they travelled together, but
I suspect they might have.
Anyway, here is some of what I have. Regards. Delia Robertson.

| I am researching the names of HILDER and RICHARDS from this area.

| In particular, I am trying to obtain a copy of the marriage certificate
for
| Charles Henry HILDER who married Adela Sarah RICHARDS around 1862.

The closest I can come is Frederick Arthur Richards baptised 8 july 1840 in
London, one of six children who accompanied his widowed father Edward to
Natal on board the Minerva in 1850. Also on board was Edward's brother
Henry John and his family - both men died within two years, leaving the
burden of raising both families on Henry's wife, Anne Elizabeth Scott.
I don't have any further individual information for Frederick, i.e. whether
he married, etc. But given his age, I suppose he potentially could have
been the father of someone who married in 1910.
BTW, I found this on NAAIRS - looks like it might fit.
